Your Website: All in One with GDI

Your Website

Other Companies

You may have heard of quite a few companies out there that offer tools to build your website at a price like GDI’s. While these tools are effective, what the marketers of these companies don’t tell you is that’s all you get–the tools to build a website. So what’s missing? Your domain! Companies that offer these site building tools can only get you so far, to make your site accessible to anyone you need to purchase a domain in addition to your monthly service fee. Combining these two services from separate companies can also be difficult to do.

GDI

With your GDI membership, you are given site-building tools and a domain. This is included in both our basic and premium membership. There’s no need to figure out how to combine services, because you can access your domain and site building tools all from the Members Area for GDI. All you need to do is choose your domain when you become a member, then when log in to your Members Area, you can access a variety of tools to build your website. No extra steps.

How to Build Your Site

GDI offers two easy services to help you build your website: SiteBuilder and a WordPress plugin especially for GDI. Read on to decide which is right for your website.

SiteBuilder

SiteBuilder is a great option if this is your first ever website or blog. SiteBuilder works off of professionally designed templates to help you build a professional looking website. These templates allow you to choose the style of your website and easily build it using drag and drop tools and widgets. If you don’t like your site, you can change the template without losing text and photos that you’ve already added to your site.

WordPress

WordPress is the right option for you if you’ve used it or similar blogging platforms before or are comfortable being more creative and using tools like WYSIWYG (which stands for what you see is what you get). Also when considering if WordPress is right for you, know that it’s not just for blogs. You can build a full website using WordPress themes and widgets. Like SiteBuilder, WordPress does offer templates and drag and drop tools, but with more freedom. You can use the GDI Theme offered in WordPress or search thousands of themes available online to make your website just the way you like. If you have HTML knowledge, you can use it to personalize your site even more.

Drupal

For those very experienced website builders, GDI offers the option to use Drupal CMS to build your website. You can find this plugin in your Member’s Area under the navigation for WordPress and More.

Other Important Services

In addition to offering tools to build your website. GDI also offers tools to supplement your website like email. With your basic GDI membership, you can create up to 10 email addresses that you can easily access. No forwarding or additional services needed. Want to know how much traffic you’re getting to your new site? GDI also offers hit logs to let you know who is viewing your site, at no extra cost.

How to Build Your Network Using LinkedIn

build your network using linkedin

LinkedIn is a great choice if you’re interested in using social media to build your business. LinkedIn is designed for business and for networking, so if you want to talk business or connect with someone, you won’t be shut out or hidden like on more friendship-based social sites like Facebook. LinkedIn is easy to use, but there are some tricks to ensure you’re getting the most out of the networking site. Read on to learn how to use LinkedIn to seamlessly build your network, business, and connections.

Fill Out Your Profile…Completely!

Your presence on LinkedIn is like your online resume. When applying for a job, you wouldn’t submit a resume with important information missing, so don’t leave your LinkedIn profile only partially complete. LinkedIn offers a handy percentage bar for your profile that lets you know how close you are to having a complete profile. Having a complete profile not only makes this progress meter go away (yay!) but it makes sure you look as professional as possible when your name comes up in a search or you request a connection. If someone sees that you haven’t filled out your profile, they may think you’re not active and reconsider reaching out to connect or to tell you about a new opportunity. A complete profile can lead to many more connections.

Personalize Connect Requests

When you send an invitation to connect on LinkedIn, LinkedIn auto-populates a little message with the invite. This message is nice, but totally impersonal and does nothing to increase the likelihood of someone connecting with you. Take the time to personalize each connection request. The space for text is small, so no need to go overboard. Just write a quick note about why you want to connect and perhaps what you can offer your new connection. This step is crucial when you want to build your network using LinkedIn.

Connect with People Only When It Makes Sense

LinkedIn will constantly show you previews of profiles that you might want to connect with, but don’t take all of these suggestions to heart. The most powerful networks on LinkedIn are carefully curated and connecting with just anyone doesn’t allow you to build this kind of network. Only connect with people if you know them or you can find a mutual connection to do an introduction. Also consider sticking to your industry when building your network. It may be nice to connect with your hairdresser, but if you don’t work in that industry (or have any intention to) it can be confusing to have so many connections not relevant to your work.

Update Your Status and Share Content

LinkedIn allows you to share status updates or write and load full user-created posts to the site. Consider sharing articles related to your business for your status updates, or, if you have time, regularly write a blog post that will go on LinkedIn as well as your own personal site. People will see that you’re active and engaged and blog posts will make you seem like thought leader in your industry.

Keep Your Profile Up to Date

Don’t let you profile get out of date! People are constantly searching LinkedIn for new connections or to suggest jobs. If your profile has your job title from two companies ago, the people that reach out to you won’t be the right ones because they will have old information. Keep your profile up to date and add new accomplishments as they happen to ensure the most beneficial connections.

6 “Don’ts” and 1 “Do” of Social Media Promotion

Social Media Promotion

Social media marketing has become one of the most effective tactics for businesses to reach, educate, and engage with their target market. The strategy behind social media efforts for businesses is extremely important in getting the ROI and bottom line results you are looking for from this marketing method. The following list indicates some “dos” and “don’ts” of social media promotion in order to increase your success rate.

Don’t Link Bait.

What is link baiting? It’s using a misleading title or information to get someone to click on a link. An example of this might be someone saying “Become a millionaire” and linking to their GDI site. This information is false and used to get someone to click. Be truthful in all the links you share and try to be descriptive and concise with the text you use surrounding a link.

Don’t Promote at the Wrong Time.

Where in the country are your customers, downline, team members? Try to time posts to when they might be awake, online ready to click. You can also use trial and error to identify the best time to post your content. If your post isn’t getting any traction, keep trying new time slots until you find you get the most clicks. Try to keep your posts to that time of day to ensure the most people see your content. If you manage your Facebook presence using a page, you can look in your Insights to see when your fans are online. You can also use Twitter Analytics, which is available to all users, to see what time your tweets get the most interaction.

Don’t Post Too Often.

You’ve seen this before: one user who fills up your Twitter or Facebook feed with a series of posts. Often times, this is a sure way for that person to get you to unfollow or unlike their page. Don’t do this. While posting multiple times in a day is OK for most networks, try not to post back to back. People may unfollow you if you clog up their feed or just assume you’re a bot.

Don’t Post Too Infrequently.

While you shouldn’t post too often, not posting enough is also an issue. People may find your Facebook or Twitter profile while searching for information on you or your business, if they click on your profile and see that you’ve haven’t posted in a few weeks, they may think you are no longer active. Try to post at least once a week so it’s obvious to those who find your page that your are active and responsive.

Don’t Spread Yourself Too Thin.

There are many social networks out there. In fact, it seems like there is a new network debuting each day. You don’t have to be on all of these networks. Find which networks you like the best and where your customers spend their time. These are the networks that will give you the best return on your time.

Do Be Yourself.

While you want to put your best self forward while promoting on social media, you do not need to create a whole new persona. People can hide behind fake profile photos and names, don’t do this if you want to build your team and you want customers to trust you. Be genuine online and present your real self when possible. Social media is about relationships and it’s hard to build strong ones when you are pretending to be someone else.

There is seemingly endless opportunity to generate new business via social media promotion efforts for B2B businesses, B2C businesses, and entrepreneurs alike. Make sure you don’t miss out on success by following the social media promotion tips listed above.
