How Setting Goals Leads to Success

How setting goals leads to success BL

How do you know when you’ve succeeded in your business? In your affiliate program? You may think you’ll know success when you see it, but it’s hard to know why you’ve had success or what to strive for next if you didn’t set goals. Setting goals may seem like an obvious thing, but many people fail to set them, resulting in an ineffective strategy or business moves that don’t make sense. Learn how setting goals leads to success by designing your goal path, achieving them, and then moving forward.

What are You Trying to Achieve?

Goals are important to success in business, not just because they give you something to strive for, but because they give you focus. Perhaps you open a pizza shop and you think it’s obvious that you want to sell pizza, but how? Do you want to sell more pizza than any other shop? Do you want to sell more pizza at the lowest price around? Or do you want to sell the highest quality pizza around, regardless of price? This is a simple example, but it applies to all business. You may think that just by starting a business or affiliate opportunity that your goal is obvious, but it’s not. What do you want to get out of starting that business or affiliate program? Now you’re on your way to setting goals.

Measuring Success

Part of what makes a good goal is the ability to measure it. Putting numbers to goals can be intimidating and many people avoid it because, what if they don’t hit those numbers? The important part of creating measurable goals is to just start. Say you’re that same pizza shop owner and you want to set some goals for how many pizzas you sell next month. Will the number you set as a goal be too high? Too low? It doesn’t matter in the beginning. Pick a goal and then start measuring your progress toward it. After those first few months, you’ll be able to see what is a reasonable goal, what is a reach goal, and what is setting the bar too low. Then adjust your goals accordingly and you’ll be on the right path to achieving the right goals.

Reset Your Goals

Once you hit a goal, what do you do next? Set a new one, of course. Often times this will mean setting a new higher goal in the same category, like last month you sold 300 pizzas and this month you want to sell 400. But new goals can also be subsets of your bigger goals. Maybe you want to sell 400 pizzas next month and make sure the customer doesn’t wait more than 20 minutes for their pizza. Or you want to sell 400 pizzas, but 100 should be for take out so you can get more cash into your business without taking up space in the dining room. Adding these qualifiers onto your goals help to guide your business better and identify what you need to improve and what doesn’t matter. Think how you can refine your goals each month.

Filing Your Goals

So you’re hitting your goals, setting, and refining them. How do you ensure continued success? Don’t forget these goals. Have a system to file your goals and information so you can look back on them to find what led to success or just compare numbers. While the goal of your business is to keep growing, it important to have information from previous months and years to give context to your growth and success.

Affiliate Marketing Success: Longevity vs. Turnover

affiliate marketing success

Building and maintaining your downline in affiliate marketing is all about balance. You must balance the work you put in to acquire new downline members and working with your existing downline members. Too much time spent on just one of these can results in an unhappy, uneducated downline and you struggling to create a system that creates residual affiliate income. Read on for ideas on how to balance your existing members, work towards longevity while avoiding turnover and achieve affiliate marketing success.

Relationships

Relationships are the key to affiliate marketing success. Take the time to build a relationship with new affiliates in your downline. As these affiliates become more experienced, maintain this relationship even though they might not need as much guidance. Strong relationships will help downline members feel good about working with you and more likely to continue on in your downline.

Support

When you have a question or an issue with a product you’ve purchased and you can easily reach out to the company who made it, how does that make you feel? How does it make you feel when you can’t reach that company? No matter if you’re selling widgets or an affiliate marketer, the ability to get support from those higher up is important. Provide support to your downline members when they need it. It will build trust and a stronger relationship.

Learning

Being a GDI affiliate is easy and manageable, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a learning curve. An educated affiliate is more likely to continue on your downline than one who doesn’t understand all of GDI’s benefits and services. That’s why GDI offers a Learning Bonus. New affiliates can qualify for this bonus, but experienced affiliates can benefit too. Study each item in the Learning Bonus checklist and make sure your downline knows them too.

Duplication

Another way experienced affiliates can benefit from the Learning Bonus is its related offering, the Duplication Bonus. Experienced affiliates work towards their Duplication Bonus as each new member of their downline earns their Learning Bonus. Ideally, your downline has members in their downline too, make sure they know about this bonus to build and extended and educated downline.

Team

Look at your downline not as people who are serving you, but as your team members. You achieve affiliate marketing success when your downline achieves success, so it’s in your best interest to ensure they are educated and happy. How do you do this? Become a great team leader. Offer support, advice and kudos when your team does well. A downline member who feels respected and supported is much more likely to stay in affiliate marketing.

Flashback Post: Your Best Tips to Succeed wtih GDI

This post originally appeared in October 2011

At GDI, we want to share our best tips for creating your own Income for Life. Some of our best tips often come from experienced affiliates who have been with GDI, made money with GDI and worked through obstacles. So we reached out to you for your best tips. And now we’re sharing them! Check them out below.

Take Your Time to Learn Marketing Strategies from a Good MentorPaul on Facebook

This is a great tip that many tend to bypass. It’s easy to want to jump as fast as you can into a new business, but if you don’t take the time to learn that business, it will be a much slower process for you to succeed. The GDI affiliate program is designed in such a way that everyone should have that mentor. As in the 9-5 corporate world, you need to be careful of who you do business with and do your research. Really talk to someone before you sign up with them to make sure they are committed to you and your success as much as their own. These are the people who will share what works for them and educate their team on marketing tips and strategies to be successful with GDI.

This is the same if you are trying to get someone to join your team. Show that you are capable of being that great mentor and helping your entire team grow and thrive. Take the time to educate your team members on what you have learned so that they have the chance to be as successful as you.

Promote on You Tube, You Will Have Access to EveryoneJoseph on Facebook

This is just another reason why video marketing is so popular. When you create video, you want to add it to your personal GDI site, but also make sure it is available on YouTube. This way you will be open to people who are browsing YouTube and learning more, but haven’t quite made it to GDI or your specific site yet. This opens a whole new potential network for you and as Joseph said gives you access to everyone in the world (who is browsing YouTube of course!). Combined with easy access, YouTube videos are also very easy to share and embed anywhere.

Stay Determined and FocusedSilas on Facebook

We talked about this recently, but it’s important enough to repeat. To succeed in any business you must remain determined and focus on your goals. Setbacks will happen, but it is important to work through them if you ultimately want to be successful. Remember to set goals and focus on them. Perhaps you joined GDI on a whim, not knowing what to expect back. You need to decide what you would like back. Set goals, create a plan to attain them and stay focused and determined!

Get Your Contact List Together and Send Emails Through GDI Darryl on Twitter

This is another important tip that we have covered on the blog before. The Inviter is an awesome tool to quickly get out emails with your GDI website to all of your contacts. The more people you share your opportunity with, the better your odds are for building your team. Log into your Members Area and start using the Inviter today.

Don’t Try to Reinvent the WheelDarryl on Twitter

If you’ve ever attended one of our webinars, this is something you have heard over and over and for good reason! GDI is an easy opportunity and there is no need to overcomplicate it. When you start to overcomplicate things, it’s too hard for your team to understand and replicate that success and you may even be scaring off potential team members. A good way to succeed with GDI is to find out what works for you and how to replicate that simply and easily so that others can be as successful. Talk to your upline or other affiliates and find what works for them, with some trial and error you will find the plan that works for you.

Good luck! Share any tips you think we missed in the comments!
