Frequently Asked .ws Domain Questions

You don’t have to be a websitq&a2e developer to understand GDI’s domain offerings. Your .ws domain is easy to use and can be configured many different ways. Here are a few common questions relating to your DNS and subdomains. Leave any additional questions for us in the comments.

What does it mean if my service is “Primary” ?
The primary service will display directly at your domain. For example: http://demonstration.ws. All other services that are “on” must be at subdomains. For example: http://blog.demonstration.ws. Only one service may be primary. Other DNS options (like “SiteBuilder”, “Hosting”, “URL Forwarding”, or “Parking”) cannot be used while a primary service is turned “on”.

What is a subdomain?
Domains can be divided into levels by the use of a dot. For example: in subdomain.domain.ws the “top level” domain is “ws”. The second level domain is “domain”. The third level domain is “subdomain”. A subdomain is a domain that is part of a larger domain; for example, the third level domain is a subdomain of the second level domain, and the second level domain is a subdomain of the top level domain. Subdomains can have completely different sites than the domain they are subordinate to.

How many subdomains can I have?
For each domain, Basic members will receive 20 subdomains (5 per service), and Premium members receive 100 subdomains (25 per service).

Will I be charged for subdomains I create?
No. There is no cost for creating subdomains.

Four Important Things Your Basic Affiliate Status Gets You

Domain

All affiliates are given a .WS domain. Your .WS allows you a chance at domain names you would otherwise be locked out of with .COM. Your .WS domain comes with instant activation, 20 sub domains, and options for parking and custom nameservers. GDI offers an optional domain privacy add-on for just $1 per month.  You can also take advantage of URL forwarding to forward to any domain with the option for masked forwarding. Your .WS domain is search engine optimized and is indexed by all major search engines.

Email

For basic affiliates, GDI’s email comes standard with 10 email addresses per domain and offers AJAX web interface as well as a mobile interface. GDI’s email also has cloud file editing and storage and personal spam control as well as POP3/IMAP support. Complete with tagging, conversations, and advanced search, your GDI Email will become your go-to email service.

Income Opportunity

As a basic GDI affiliate, you will be rewarded with a 10% commission on the revenue generated from each layer, down through a total of 5 generations, with no limit to how many “front line” (Layer 1) affiliates you may have and therefore no limit to your potential income. If you personally introduce just 5 affiliates and each of them do the same, you will have built a network of 3905 affiliates. Possibly the most simple and easy to understand way to explain the GDI affiliate program is as a type of referral program. Affiliates are rewarded for each new sign up they refer to their team. When your referral signs up with you, you receive a commission.

Bonus Eligibility

Affiliates are no longer required to purchase a DVD package or be an active Premium member to be eligible for the bonus. Now all active GDI affiliates (including basic) will be eligible to win the bonus. Each and every active affiliate can now earn an unlimited number of $100 bonuses each week. SiteBuilder vs. WordPress: Choose Your Service

GDI offers you two tools to help you easily build a WebSite at your .ws domain: SiteBuilder and WordPress. How do you know which one is right for you?

If you want to take out the guess work: SiteBuilder

SiteBuilder provides customized, professionally designed templates. You can choose form template groupings and then individual templates. These are set up with the color scheme and layout already chosen for you. All you need to do is add your own content in the form of text, photos, videos and more.

If you want endless themes and plugins: WordPress

While GDI provides professionally designed templates, anyone can design a WordPress template. This means there’s a countless number of themes available online for your download. If you’ve got a specific idea in mind, chances are you can find a theme created by someone else to fit it. This does require you to search outside of WordPress and some themes do cost money, though there are plenty of free ones as well.

If you just want to blog: Both

WordPress is designed for blogging. You can create almost any type of website with you want WordPress blog, but blogging is at its core. If you prefer SiteBuilder’s easy drag and drop structure and templates, don’t worry, SiteBuilder offers a blog plugin you can easily activate. Learn more about SiteBuilder’s blog option here.

If you want to share video: Both

Adding video is easy with both SiteBuilder and WordPress. It’s as simple as copying the embed code from the YouTube video you like and pasting it into the HTML or text option of the post editor. Click here for a step by step video on adding video to SiteBuilder.
