Becoming Your Own Boss

As an affiliate marketer you are your own boss. This means answering only to yourself when it comes to scheduling, income, and the like. It’s something to take seriously so that you stay on task and don’t go too easy on yourself. Here are a few ways to accomplish this.

Schedule Reviews

Reviews with your boss are commonplace in the standard work setting for good reason. As your own boss, this isn’t something you should get rid of. Reviews help to keep you on track and highlight areas that you are excelling in as well as those that need work. Schedule a review for yourself every few months. You are the boss and the employee for this scenario. Do a self review and identify areas you need work in as well as those that deserve praise. Save your reviews so you can look back at the end of the year to see your progress and set new goals.

Create Office Hours

Teachers, mentors, and bosses have office hours. These are scheduled blocks of time where they can assist their students, mentees, and employees and can be very helpful to everyone. Consider something like this for your downline members. Set aside a few hours each week to connect with your team and assist them as needed. You may be your own boss, but affiliate marketing is still a team endeavor; don’t neglect this aspect!

Think Big Picture

The thought of being your own boss, if only part time, is exciting and liberating. All of the freedom that comes with being your own boss may make it easy to get a little lazy and put off responsibilities of building your business. To avoid these traps, think “big picture.” This means envisioning what your hope to get from being an affiliate marketer and working each day to get it. As your own boss you’re half way there, now you need to build the income!
