Becoming Your Own Boss

As an affiliate marketer you are your own boss. This means answering only to yourself when it comes to scheduling, income, and the like. It’s something to take seriously so that you stay on task and don’t go too easy on yourself. Here are a few ways to accomplish this.

Schedule Reviews

Reviews with your boss are commonplace in the standard work setting for good reason. As your own boss, this isn’t something you should get rid of. Reviews help to keep you on track and highlight areas that you are excelling in as well as those that need work. Schedule a review for yourself every few months. You are the boss and the employee for this scenario. Do a self review and identify areas you need work in as well as those that deserve praise. Save your reviews so you can look back at the end of the year to see your progress and set new goals.

Create Office Hours

Teachers, mentors, and bosses have office hours. These are scheduled blocks of time where they can assist their students, mentees, and employees and can be very helpful to everyone. Consider something like this for your downline members. Set aside a few hours each week to connect with your team and assist them as needed. You may be your own boss, but affiliate marketing is still a team endeavor; don’t neglect this aspect!

Think Big Picture

The thought of being your own boss, if only part time, is exciting and liberating. All of the freedom that comes with being your own boss may make it easy to get a little lazy and put off responsibilities of building your business. To avoid these traps, think “big picture.” This means envisioning what your hope to get from being an affiliate marketer and working each day to get it. As your own boss you’re half way there, now you need to build the income!

Five Questions

You just became an affiliate with GDI, now what? It’s time to ask yourself some serious questions. These five questions will help set you on the right track!

  3. How will I build my network? Who are going to reach out to? Will you use social media? Create a blog? Market offline? Create a plan of action to build your network.
  4. What will I use my domain for? GDI offers several options for your .WS domain. Learn more about them in your Members Area and get started.

Traditional WebSite vs. Simple WebSite

What do you think of when you hear “traditional website?” If you’re like most people, you imagine a website with several pages, photos, and information. To find more about the company behind the website, you search for an “about us” or “contact us” link, but that’s if you don’t get bored of lost first. Social media news blog, Mashable, recently discussed in this article the need for a website that is simple and gets to the point. Too often people visit websites that don’t give them any information or a call to action. As a result visitors don’t get the information they need and never return.

How do you create a stand alone site and avoid these problems? One: keep is simple. Two: be up front.

Keep It Simple

When someone visits your site, they should be able to easily navigate to what they need or find it when the first visit. To offer this, you need to keep your site simple. This means a clean easy to follow layout that shows visitors exactly what you have to offer. Your website can be just one page and achieve all of your goals.

Have your most relevant information on the front page of your site and a way for people to get in contact with you. Don’t send visitors searching all over your site to get in touch with you to learn more.

Be Up Front

What do you want to get from your visitors? Ask yourself this question then design your website around this. If you are aiming to build your affiliate network, write about this and what people can gain. Share videos explaining this and how people can get started. You need to think of your endgame to design your website and be honest about it. Leading people all over your site and not answering questions is a sure way to lose them.
