5 Tips for Building a Successful Website

Tips for building a successful website

Your website should be a unique extension of you and showcase your business or affiliate opportunities. While your website should look different than others to stand out, there are some universal design elements to keep in mind when building your site. Read on to learn our tips for building a successful website

Website Navigation

Getting around your site is very important for visitors. Have you ever visited a website and been unable to find what you need and just left? Don’t let that be your website. Consider putting your most important and relevant information on the main landing page–the page that people get to first when they type in your domain. This way people will be sure to see what they need to without clicking around. However, if people do need to visit several pages on your site, make it easy for them. Use a top navigation so that people can see their available options. Also make sure that people can easily get back to the home page by clicking your logo at the top of any page on your website.

Photos and Web Content

You already know that images are important to website design, so that’s not what we’re discussing here. What you need to think about is what happens when those images fail to load. Slow connections and occasional loading mistakes may make it so those carefully selected images you chose won’t show up for some of your visitors. What will you website look like without them? Will your visitors still be able to understand the story of your company? Use images to supplement your story on your main landing page, not tell the whole thing. Also be sure to name your images well so your visitors will understand what the image is supposed to be even if it doesn’t load.

Mobile Website

A large amount of everyone’s traffic to their website is coming from mobile devices–some estimates say close to 50%! This means people are visiting your site on their tablets, smartphones, and other small devices. You don’t need to be a site building expert to optimize your site for mobile, but you do need to take the time to check what your site looks like on mobile devices and adjust accordingly. WordPress and similar services offer a plugin that you can add to your site that creates a clean mobile version, allowing you to access a website in a simple standard way. If you’re not using any of these services, just be sure to keep content above the fold if possible, meaning your most important content appears on your page without having to scroll. In most cases this will ensure that this same important information will fit onto the screen when viewing your site on a mobile device. Also make sure all your navigation menu options show up on mobile. If not, consider changing the margins so your site is more narrow and apt to fit in a small mobile screen.

The Importance of Your Call to Action Button

The Importance of the call to action button

The call to action button is a major part of your website. If you had to choose one thing to keep on your website and get rid of everything else, the call to action button would be that one thing. Why? Because the call to action button is those whole purpose of your website. It’s the reason you work to drive traffic to your site. Read on to learn more.

What It Is

The call to action button is a button, link or linked image that asks people to perform an action that benefits your business. For example, in an online store, the call to action button may be “shop.” For an affiliate marketer, the call to action button may be “sign up” or “learn more.” For a political campaign, the call to action may be “join us” or “sign up to learn more.” These are all examples of the first action in a pipeline that gets your potential customer, downline member or volunteer to complete a transaction with you. The call to action isn’t usually the final step, but more like the beginning of the relationship with a customer.

Why You Need It

Website traffic is great, but unless you’re using ads and have tons of traffic, visitors to your website won’t get you much. You need a call to action button to get your visitors to take the next step. You need the button to turn your visitors from being anonymous people visiting your website to being leads and potential customers. The call to action button takes the guess work out of your business, you will find out who is visiting your site and how you can serve them and your new leads can learn more about your directly.

How to Use It

Because it’s so important to your business, your call to action button should be prominent on the main page of your website. It doesn’t need to be so prominent that it’s distracting, but be sure to place it in a place on your website that it can be seen without any scrolling. Also check out where the button appears when our visit your website on a mobile device to make sure it still can be seen. Depending on what you call to action is, you will then use it in different ways. If you use a simple “sign up to learn more” you can share information by email with that sign up. If you choose “sign up for our newsletter” you need to email that person to confirm that they would like to receive emails from you. If you use a service like GDI, look in your missed sign up emails to see who may have clicked the call to action button but not completed the signup process. The call to action is very important, but follow up is what makes it all work.

Every website needs a call to action button, no matter its purpose. The first step toward a new customer includes the call to action button, so make sure it’s on your site!

5 Reasons Why Your Website Needs A Blog

5 Reasons Why your Website Needs a Blog

You’ve no doubt heard that blogs can be a great addition to your website. We agree that they are not only a great addition, but truly necessary for a powerful website. Read on to learn five reasons why your website needs a blog for business.

To Share News

Use your blog to share industry news, personal news or company news. Your blog is a great opportunity to keep your website visitors and customers updated. Be sure the news you share is relevant to your business though. Even if you feel passionate about the president or what is going on at your child’s school, the blog on your business website is not the place to share this as you may alienate customers or visitors. If you really want to share your thoughts online, create an additional personal blog to share.

To Preserve Your Website

Getting your website just right can be time consuming,  so you don’t want to have to edit it and change the look every time you have news or an update to share. Use your blog to share these more frequent updates. This will ensure your website still looks professional and perfect while keeping your customers updated and saving time on formatting. Most blogs allow for simple updates with no additional formatting needed, making this the best place to share frequent updates. Do update the look of your website when truly needed to keep it up to date, but with a blog, there’s no reason to update it daily or weekly.

To Educate

Your blog is a powerful tool to educate team members, customers and prospective customers. While the landing page or product pages on your website might offer limited space, you can use your blog to more deeply describe your products and their benefits or teach others how to be successful in their business. Use your blog to share tips, videos, tutorials and more.

To Show Activity

How updated and active your website is matters a lot of customers and prospective team members. If someone visits your website and it’s hard to tell the last time it’s been updated, they may leave. An out of date website signals to people that you don’t care about your business and may be hard to reach. While this may not be true, this is the message being sent. It can be difficult to update your website frequently if you’re not a large business, but updating your blog frequently is easy and smart. With a blog, people may visit your website and navigate to your blog to see how active you business is, when they see a recent blog posts, it signals to them that you’re active and reachable. Update your blog as frequently as possible, the content doesn’t have to be long, just share news and activity.

To Share Content from Others

There’s lots of great content on the internet and you should be benefiting from it. One way to benefit is to share the great content you find. Maybe you found a blog post that puts an idea into words better than you can or a video that explains a part of your business. Reach out to the creators of this content or share their content and be sure to credit them properly and link to their site. Your blog allows you to be share content from others without it coming across as your own, like it might to your main landing page. Also try to set up a  reciprocal relationship with people who operate blogs like yours and offer content to be shared on their blog and share theirs. This can give you a break from creating content every now and then and promote your blog and business on a place where you can attract new customers.

A blog is always a smart addition to a website. Many websites offer a template for a blog, making it easy to add on. Once you start your blog, don’t forget about it. It takes little time to manage a blog, but the results are very important!
