Technical Q&A

We get some great questions on Facebook and do our best to answer them, sometimes with the help of our tech team. As these are common questions, we wanted to share the answers on the blog too in case you missed them and have the same questions.

Q: How may sub domains can we have?

A:Currently, we offer 20 sub-domains (5 for each service) for each domain you have. If you require additional domains, we recommend upgrading to a Premium account, where you will have 100 sub-domains (25 for each service).

Q: I’m trying to customize my page with a GDI theme layout, but I am the only one who can see the changes. When I get on any other browser I can’t see the custom theme layout on my page. It only works on Firefox. I’ve tried Facefetti, Pagerage, Grease Monkey, and Stylish add-ons, but I still get the same results. What can I do?

A: This is a temporary problem and can happen because websites won’t all resolve immediately until their DNS provider updates with new information about the domain (usually a couple hours). If you switched your root domain to use WordPress, which has different DNS, your new changes may be slow to propagate across the internet as a result. So wait a bit before you check back and your changes should show in all browsers.

Q: I saw the announcement for 10GB of storage on WordPress hosted sites, but didn’t get much else information. Can you tell me more about this? How does this  affect plugins?

A: When you install new plug ins for WordPress (or perform any actions with items like WordPress, Drupal, etc.), the storage space they require is deducted from your total 10GB quota. In most cases, WordPress plugins take a negligible amount of storage space. You should not be worried about exceeding your quota unless you are installing thousands of large plugins.

No one can see the theme, but myself, this truly sucks. especially for people who love to, theme skin, customize and MOD websites like me. Oh well.

    • Global Domains International, Inc. Hi Rafael, Are you still having issues? It’s Tax Time. Are You Ready?

Many of you are lucky enough to know Bart Dangerfield as that ever helpful voice from our webinars. To offer even more to our GDI users, Bart was kind enough to share his tax tips.

As April 15th approaches here in the United States, most Americans’ thoughts turn to spring and TAXES! Yes, it’s the time of year everyone dreads. But owning your own business can take some of  the sting out of tax time.

You might be thinking, “But I don’t own a business! I just pay $10 a month to enjoy GDI’s great domain products.” Don’t be fooled. If you can earn money with it, it’s a business. Even if you just consider yourself a casual or even “unsuccessful” GDI Affiliate, you are still entitled to some tax breaks for owning your own business.

The United States is not the only country that uses tax breaks to help stimulate their economy by rewarding entrepreneurial efforts. However, for the purposes of this article, let’s take a quick look at just some of the possible deductions the U.S. allows for people like you to benefit at tax time:

  • Home office
  • Office supplies
  • Your Computer and other equipment
  • Software and subscriptions
  • Mileage for your vehicle
  • Travel, meals, entertainment and gifts
  • Telephone and other utilities (especially your Internet charges)

Of course, this is not intended to be a comprehensive overview of how to prepare your taxes this year. Go to www.irs.gov for detailed information regarding your specific financial situation and deductions that might apply to you. Global Domains International provides this information for your convenience, and not as a guideline. As always, consult a tax professional or financial advisor when considering your options. But at the same time, make sure you get ALL the benefits that are available to anyone who runs their own business, even if it does only cost you $10 a month!
